Top Five Sexual Needs of Married Men & Women - Part 1

Day 1 - Aug 11, 2025

Understanding Your Spouse's Needs

God created men and women, and He created sex. He also designed us with different sexual needs that are essential for a fulfilling marriage.

In their insightful book, The Five Sex Needs of Men and Women, Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg explored these differences by interviewing around a thousand Christian couples about their sex lives. The results of their research are both enlightening and revealing.

According to their findings, here are the top 5 sexual needs for married men and women:

TODAY WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT THE MAN:

A Man's 1st Need: Mutual Satisfaction

The study revealed that 67% of men expressed, "I want my wife to be satisfied." It's crucial for women to understand that their husbands desire not only participation in intimacy but also enjoyment. This need is deeply tied to a man's self-esteem; he longs to be seen as a good lover.

Men often perceive intimacy in physical terms (S-E-X), while women may view it in emotional terms (T-A-L-K). Knowing that up to 90% of a man’s self-image can be connected to his sexuality highlights the importance of Mutual Satisfaction.

Sex, passion, and the ability to please his wife are what make a man feel truly like a man. When faced with sexual rejection, he may emotionally withdraw or act out in ways that are harmful.

Take Action

To nurture his sexual needs, take time to talk to God about any reservations you might have.

Start with your own heart:

  • Learn what truly satisfies your husband.
  • Make a commitment to meet his needs.
  • Remember, this commitment does not mean compromising your values or violating God's word.

As you reflect on this lesson, consider this compelling question:

  • What is one specific way you can show your husband that you value his need for mutual satisfaction?

Understanding and addressing your spouse's needs is vital for a healthy, thriving marriage. Let's explore this journey together!

Day 2 - Aug 12, 2025

Understanding Your Spouse's Needs

Today, we’re focusing on the woman’s needs, and her first need is Affirmation.

Research has shown that most women deeply desire to feel appreciated and valued, especially before intimacy. They want to hear that they are beautiful and cherished. During intimate moments, affirmation is equally important; just as men wish to feel validated as lovers, women want to know they are great lovers too. This connection fosters a deeper bond and enhances intimacy.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Men, today is your chance! Before the day ends, take a moment to offer your wife some genuine encouragement.

Start with sincere words; avoid mere flattery. Be intentional and heartfelt. For example, tell her she’s your best friend and that she is the best wife. You might say, “I love how you handle challenges with grace; it inspires me every day.” This kind of affirmation not only boosts her self-esteem but also strengthens your emotional connection.

Consider another practical example: if your wife has just completed a project or achieved something significant, take the time to acknowledge her hard work. You might say, “I’m so proud of you for all the effort you put into that. You really excel at what you do!” This recognition shows her that you see and appreciate her contributions, both big and small.

Take Action

Encourage her by recognizing her uniqueness and wiring, giving her the priority she deserves, and highlighting her potential and contributions.

Choose 1 to 2 actions and aim to incorporate them into your weekly routine!

As you reflect on this lesson, consider this compelling question:

  • What specific affirmation can you give your wife today that will make her feel valued and cherished?

Day 3 - Aug 13, 2025

Understanding Your Spouse's Needs

The second fundamental need for both men and women is Connection.

A husband longs to feel that his wife is focused on him and genuinely paying attention. This desire for connection goes beyond mere physicality; men seek emotional intimacy that reinforces their bond.

Similarly, women crave more than just a physical act to meet their needs. They desire a total connection of body, mind, and spirit. Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9

Men: To your wife, friendship means heart-to-heart communication. It involves sharing special time away together and envisioning a future where you grow old side by side. This connection requires effort—she needs you to work hard at your marriage.

  • Laugh together, play together, and navigate the inevitable differences that arise. Engaging in shared activities, whether it's cooking, hiking, or simply enjoying a movie night, can significantly deepen your bond.

Ladies: Are you the one person your husband can count on when things get tough? Your husband needs your friendshipand support. He needs to feel that he can safely explore the thoughts and feelings swirling in his heart and mind with you. Let him know you genuinely want to be his best friend.

  • Create a safe space for him to confront his pain and uncertainties, and be ready to love him sacrificially. Your willingness to listen and support him in tough times can foster an unbreakable connection.

Take Action

Consider this question:

What specific action can you take today to create a meaningful moment of connection with your spouse.

  • Whether through a heartfelt conversation.
  • A shared activity. or
  • Simply being present for them

Understanding and meeting your spouse’s needs is essential for a healthy marriage.

Day 4 - Aug 14, 2025

Understanding Your Spouse's Needs

A man's third sexual need is Responsiveness.

A husband deeply desires his wife to be interested in sex and to express a willingness to engage in intimacy. This does not imply that a wife cannot say no or decline intimacy when she needs to. However, it’s essential for a wife to understand that constant unresponsiveness can feel like rejection to her husband. This feeling of rejection can significantly impact his emotional well-being and the overall health of the marriage.

When your husband seeks your unconditional love, it means he needs to feel accepted and cherished regardless of circumstances. Unconditional love is beautifully exemplified by God, who loves us despite our flaws and shortcomings: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8. This divine love serves as a model for how we should love our spouses.

Take Action

In practice, showing unconditional love involves prioritizing your husband’s needs and desires, even when it requires setting aside your own for a moment.

It’s about creating an atmosphere of trust and intimacy where he feels valued and wanted. However, it’s crucial to clarify that thinking of your spouse first does not mean you should tolerate abuse or unhealthy behaviors. If there are specific issues in your marriage that create barriers to intimacy, seeking professional counseling can provide the support needed to navigate these challenges effectively.

Consider this important question:

  • How can you demonstrate responsiveness and unconditional love to your husband in a way that makes him feel desired and valued today?

Day 5 - Aug 15, 2025

Understanding Your Spouse's Needs

A woman's third sexual need is Non-Sexual Touch.

This concept may be challenging for some men to grasp, but it’s essential to understand that women crave soft and tender touches outside the bedroom.

Women do not want to be groped, nor do they wish for every touch to feel like a prelude to sex.

Research indicates that it takes 8 to 10 meaningful touches a day to maintain both physical and emotional health. These non-sexual touches foster an emotional connection by enhancing trustself-esteem, and a sense of safety.

  • In turn, this leads to reduced conflict and a diminished feeling of isolation within the relationship.

Interestingly, the more non-sexual affection a husband provides, the more open and receptive his wife becomes to intimacy. When your wife hears the word intimacy, she often thinks about emotional connection and communication.

In order to fulfill this need, she desires a marriage characterized by vulnerability—a space where both partners can share their inner thoughts, feelings, and true selves without fear of judgment. It’s important to listen to her, demonstrate an understanding heart, and offer her both attention and affection.

  • Building rapport and effectively resolving conflicts are crucial steps in safeguarding your relationship.
